More About The Ricky Stuart Foundation
The Ricky Stuart Foundation is committed to creating an inclusive and accepting Australia for people with Autism.
The Foundation was established by the ex-NRL player and coach Ricky Stuart and his wife Kaylie in 2011.
Through Stuart’s experience of raising a daughter with Autism, the Canberra Raiders coach and his family quickly recognised they were positioned to promote real change after witnessing a lack of autism awareness, support and respite care available to local families.
The Foundation has delivered two state-of-the-art respite facilities in the ACT and we’re planning our third project, a home for individuals with a disability in South Jerrabomberra.
The Foundation advocates for autism awareness and acceptance through the creation of awareness and engagement, connecting with our community through engagement and events, such as the Greenway Medical Charity fundraising walk and delivering respite care for families.
Working with our community partners we’re able to generate charitable donations to support our ongoing work as we continue to extend our footprint and deliver on our vision.
A key focus for the Foundation in 2023 is to embed an autism awareness education program in ACT schools.
The education program will help children understand Autism, how people with Autism may interact and some of the challenges they face day-to-day.
The education program will be developed in partnership with the Foundation, expert autism professionals and teachers.
Through education and awareness, we want to reduce disability-based bullying in schools, and support families by knowing their child is in an environment where awareness and acceptance of Autism are part of the school and community ethos.
Delivering an education program in schools raises awareness for Autism and builds more community understanding.
Longer term we hope education is the foundational pillar for the next generation of adults who will take their knowledge about Autism into their workplaces and communities.
Grassroots fundraising is the heart and soul of our community. Events like the Greenway Medial Centre Charity Walk provide beneficial funds to support our work, but also bring communities together for a cause and a conversation, which is just as important.
